The format was 500 point, modern age, no resources but relics allowed. I spent a bit of time working on my team since I wanted to win the prize, the IIM Power Plant and Disintegration Beam Ring.
Our venue is not a hardcore, curbstomping, meta team playing shop. In face, we are pretty close to the other end of the line. You rarely see resources or relics, there aren't teams half full of Prob or Perplex figures. ATA's? Never played them. Like I said, we are way on the other end of super competitive. And to be honest, that's fine with me.
But, since we have just started Tournaments, I think we all spent a little time working on our teams. I was home sick for the week, and felt so bad I didn't feel like doing anything more strenuous than staring at the TV...... or the computer, poring over HCRealms.
I had recently pulled Alyosha Kraven, the ASM Rare prime of Kraven the Hunter. He has two cool specials:
(Special) Gulyadkin: As you place your force on
the map, you may place in your starting area a Gulyadkin the Lion bystander
token as described on the back of this card. As long as a friendly Alyosha
Kraven is on the map, Gulyadkin the Lion can be given one action as a free
action.
(Attack) Animal Influence: If Alyosha Kraven was given a
non-free action this turn, you may give Gulyadkin the Lion or another friendly
character with the Animal keyword a move action as a free action
I had notice that the WXM Wolverine had the animal keyword. I had used the two of them together a couple of weeks previously and enjoyed Wolvie with free moves.
Then, with the new Invincible Iron Man set, the Alpha Flight team has quite a lot of synergy. Guardian has a special called 'Alphans Unite' which gives a +1 to a figures attack roll if he has the Alpha Flight keyword.
WAX Wolverine has the Alpha Flight Key word. So he sports a 13 attack on his first click, with free movement. Very nice.
I had played him once when the WXM set was released and didn't have a ton of luck with him, but he was excellent Saturday. When he got hit, he'd land on his invincible click, which would mean if he got hit again for 2 or three damage, he'd take only one.
Alyosha is also a beast but quickly got targeted after my first game completely wrecked the opposing team. The incredible part is that the lion, with a 9 attack was devastating and hit a 6 on a BCF roll to knock out the Iron Pharoah.
Speaking of which, the IIM Chases are cool. Basically, certain Iron Man figures can AE into a Chase if they roll 2d6 and either is a 5 or 6. Then the other die is subtracted against six and the Chase is dealt that much unavoidable damage.
My opponent's Stealth Iron Man was ko'ed so he rolled to see if he could call in Iron Pharoah. He rolled an 11. Yes, a six and a five. So, midway through the game, he was able to replace a KO'ed Stealth Iron Man, 110 points, with a completely fresh Iron Pharoah.
That was absolutely awesome. I was pretty sure I was doomed. But the next round Gulyadkin KO'ed him with a six BCF roll.
The next match was fun, the highlights of which was the Mandarin missing every roll (so I wasn't able to use the flame blast ring and then as a free action the mento influence ring. Penetrating attack and then a free mind control!) Actually, he didn't hit in the first match either!
But Guardian, with the +1 to his own attack due to his power, made an awesome Energy Explsion that did a total of 11 damage! The other team was all bunched together and Guardian hit. It was awesome.
My luck and team building hit a concrete wall in the third tea when I went against Brother Voodoo with a batarang relic. Yup, mind control every round, two targets. It was nasty.
But, I did win fellowship so I got the Powerplant and the really cool disintegration ring.

It's been a busy month!
I had made some large trades and have decided to play as many of the new figures as I can. I play Heroclix every almost every Saturday, and we usually get three or four games in. I had used the IH 31 Daredevil once before but I decided to use him again this weekend.
That first click he has is awesome. For your opponent to hit him, without using outwit, they would have to go through shapechange, then roll to hit, then I could roll Supersenses. So, not too easy to hit.
That works great.....unless he is based by a Thunder God. And I miss both super senses and shape change. In that case, Daredevil gets a hammer between the horns and dies quietly the next round.
I also played another new (to me) figure. I noticed the Jean Grey, Mutations and Monsters 039, had a pretty decent dial, and starts with a 10 av, outwit and a special power running shot and mind control. Sounds cool to me.
She did ok in the game and was able to use the Running Shot mind control to MC my opponents TDW 002 Einherjar (what a nice looking figure!), named Karl by my opponent, to turn around and stab Thor for five. It was great.
The problem with older figures that have good attack dials is that usually their defense is very hittable, so they crumple pretty quickly if attacked by a newer figure. Not that I'm some Heroclix Strategist but I still want to use some of these older figures and even if they get wasted pretty quickly, they also usually have a low cost so they may still be worth playing.
Sadly, Jean Grey is 90 points and while Running Shot/ Mind control is cool, she is not any better than the 59 point Fantastic Forces 039 Karma. Actually, Karma is better as she is nearly half the cost, and can MC two opponents.
I also was able to play a new Prime figure and found a perfect character for him to team up with. Check in tomorrow, it was a blast!

Lessons learned by a Newbie: Trading on HCRealms
I have made a few trades and gotten some good deals. However, most every offer included my Fear Itself Colossus and the offers just didn't make me want to trade him away. I realized I wasn't going to trade him unless it was a crazy offer, and what I was looking for were not high dollar Clix, so I removed him from my H/W list.
I spent some time looking over older sets: GSX, IH, CW, Sinister, Mutations and Monsters and found a lot of cool figures that might be fun to play and actually do some good things in matches. I added them all to my H/W list and posted that I had some ASM chases, FI stuff and a BM GCPD Cruiser/Tank I bought in a moment on crazy.
I got a ton of good offers, quickly. I ended up making 5 trades.
The first offer I got was a ton of stuff for the ASM Anti Sinister Six chase. It is a very cool figure and I was really psyched when I opened it but look at what all was offered:
CW
Nick Fury
Ant Man
Dinah Soar
Iron Man Drone
And my choice of:
Thor Chariot, CW Mr. Sinister or CW Giant Man.
Wow. I decided to take the CW Giant Man. I cannot wait to get these figures!
Here are two of the figures I got in another of the trades I agreed to:
This is the figure I wanted as soon as I saw it, what a cool sculpt and the dial is cool, too. I will definitely play him Saturday.

I found him when I was searching through the older sets. Cool sculpt and the dial is cool, too. Daredevil with mind control? Ok, don't remember that but it's from a storyline in the comic. Going ot play him Saturday, too.

I figured out how to organize my cards.
I finally decided to buy a notebook and card organizer sheets for my mass of Clix cards. I decided to organize the cards by points, which is awesome. This will make it a lot easier to build teams.
Yeah, it's awesome.....until I buy a new booster and need to put those cards into my set.
One plus to finally organizing my cards is I can easily study figures I would maybe not really look at. I've mentioned I am partial to Marvel figures and only sometimes play DC based figures.
But, remember those four Teen Titans boosters I mentioned? Well, yeah, I bought one of them and picked one up when we went to Tampa and actually got some cool figures. More on them later.
I have also bought a booster of Batman here and there and while going through my cards, came across the card for Grifter. I had bought the first couple issues of WILDCATS and thought Grifter was kind of cool so I actually looked over his card.
(Speed) Quickfire: Give Grifter a ranged combat action. After actions resolve, if this power is showing, he may make a second ranged combat attack as a free action.
(Special) Psychic Shields: Psimon and adjacent friendly characters can't be targeted with Penetrating/Psychic Blast.
(Speed) Ultimate Control: Psimon can use Mind Control. When he does, modify his attack value by +2 and, if he targets more than one character, he is not dealt unavoidable damage.
(Defense) Sadistic Arrogance: Psimon can use Energy Shield/Deflection and Willpower.

So, first click is good, but that second click is awesome, 11 AV, Perplex up the damage and Flurry... Wow, sounds good to me!
And one of the Super Rares I pulled from Teen Titans:
Psimon:

So, basically, you get +2 to his attack roll when he uses mind control and IF he attempts MC twice, he does not take damage for attempting mind control.
Nice!
One thing I noticed is that the HCRealms Unit forums has tons of comments for Marvel based figures but far fewer comments for the Teen Titans and Batman sets. I haven't spent much time reading over the sets, I sort of thought the Teen Titans set was kind of weak with a lot of 5 click dials, but there are some cool figures in that set.
I'll have to try some of these out this weekend!

Went to a Fear Itself Tourney yesterday...
Got the email from the shop in Valdosta and so I contacted everyone local to see who wanted to go. Three others rode up with me so there were a total of 8 players in the tournament.
I was the first to open my boosters and I got some dupes but did manage to get a 020 Red She Hulk, Monkey King, Attuma and Greithoth. I had traded for a Greithoth last week so already had one. I had also completed a trade for my Kuurth on hcrealms.com but perked up when I noticed someone had a spare Kuurth. One of the few figures he didn't have was Greithoth so we made a trade.
The Mighty Red She Hulk has a cool Special Power:
It sounds great but I know if I used her, I'd never see two opponents next to each other. Of course, that isn't going to stop me from trying it, at least once.
I knew from the last tournament and from studying the Fear Itself figures, that there isn't a lot of range in the set, and since we were using two boosters of FI, I imagined that most people would be using melee figures. Although that can be remedied by using the hammers, I still decided to use figures that had range.
I used 24 Greithoth, 16 Black Widow and 17 Ms. Marvel. I usually try to build a team that has as many figures as actions during a turn. I couldn't come up with a good five figure team with my boosters so decided to run this team.
How did I do? Well, I didn't win, but these two games were two of my most fun games I have ever played. Both of my opponents always win or come in second at the tournaments so I was up against some tough competition.
The first match was tough. The other player placed a Thule Priest and Iron Fist with in striking distance before I could drop a hammer. I decided to eliminate 20 percent of his team before he had his hammers. It worked but I was hammer down.
He then placed Valkyrie in range and again I decided to ko her. However, I was not able to knock her out and ended up getting wiped out by Tanarus. Tanarus is an amazing figure, he has always done extremely well in the games I have seen him used.
I was happy I did pretty well and took most of his team with me. If I had made an attack roll on Valkyrie, I may have won, but that extra round Valk had put a pissed off Asgardian with BCF and Flurry in my face...
In my next game, I was rocked pretty early and the game ended up with my Black Widow against Angrir and Iron Fist. She managed to take out Iron Fist and after Angrir took a swing at her and she hit her Super Senses roll, I thought I had made a decent showing. She started chipping away at Angrir. He hit, I made my Super Senses roll and hit him again. I started to think I might actually possibly win....
He rolled for regeneration. He rolled a #^%^^&&*$ 6!! He hit, I rolled Super Senses. I ended up rolling 4 SS's in a row before an attack finally went through. The next round he smacked Black Widow into oblivion but I thoroughly enjoyed the game. If only.....
That was a fun trip and some very fun games.

MIGHTY BIG-@$$ SWORD: Red She-Hulk can use Blades/Claws/Fangs. Give Red She-Hulk a close combat action that does not generate knock back; when she does, on a result of 4-6 on the d6 roll, after actions resolve, deal the same amount of damage to an opposing character adjacent to the target but not adjacent to Red She-Hulk. |

Weekly booster pull part one.
I was at work last Thursday and decided to stop by the shop on that side of town and pick up a booster. They don't have designated Heroclix time but they are going to start soon so that will be cool. So I went in, hoping they had some Wolverine and the X men left, but they were out.
They had some Teen Titans and 2 boosters of Amazing Spider Man. I started my addic....collection with the Spiderman set so I checked out the two boosters and picked the one that felt right. I know I'm not the only one that does that, right? Right?
Anyway, I took the booster to the counter, then for some reason, changed my mind and went back and got the other booster. I paid for the booster and being the addict I am, opened the booster right there:
HOLY MOLY, Brother Voodoo!!! COOL! I can not believe my luck, and can not believe I talked myself into going back in there and buying the booster after getting a chase. Well,I guess I can believe I talked myself into buying the booster :)

YES!! Iron Spider chase!!! And I also got Daimon Hellstrom so am I glad I switched the booster!!!
So, Monday at work, I got to thinking about the last booster of Spiderman, the one I had originally picked but then switched at the last moment. It didn't take much to come up with a reason to swing by and pick it up, I had a crappy day at work, I was going out of town this weekend and would be unable to play Heroclix and pick up my weekly booster, I had a good day at work so I deserved a treat....like I said, it wasn't hard to come up with a reason.
I kept telling myself I was an idiot for buying the last booster when I had opened a booster with a Chase. I knew I'd get nothing but dupes, probably with a Dr. Strange ( I have five of him!!! FIVE!!!) but I went anyway.
I halfheartedly checked the Teen Titans boosters (they were HEAVY! All heavier than the Spiderman booster) but grabbed the Spiderman booster anyway, grimly ready to see this idiocy through to the end. Paying for the booster, I told the store owner I was going to get nothing good, but fr some reason, I thought that booster had a Ghost Rider. I opened it and there was no Ghost Rider. But, the first figure was Spiderman 1b, which I did not have, the second was Dagger which I do have but I was happy I had at least one new figure. The cards blocked the middle figures but the last one was Satanna Hellstrom, which I did not have. Cool, both Hellstrom in two consecutive boosters. Looking over the cards, I saw two identical figures. What the heck? Wait a second....
HOLY MOLY, Brother Voodoo!!! COOL! I can not believe my luck, and can not believe I talked myself into going back in there and buying the booster after getting a chase. Well,I guess I can believe I talked myself into buying the booster :)

Ok, forget the team I posted
As Dr. Voodoo can't be carried since he is a flyer. Galactus was not played Saturday at my local shop but 'the guy' had a formidable team, full of perplex, probability control and two attackers.
The next game was a blast. We had decided to set up the next weeks games in advance, nothing too crazy but to give us time to put a team together that might be a little more cohesive than sitting down and trying to throw a team together in 5 minutes.
We had decided on the 600 point game, anything goes and a 400 point game, semi sort of theme comic book sort of accurate. As you can see, we aren't too restrictive. The idea was to have a fun game, and have a somewhat accurate comic team or a comic based team.
So, a Guardians of the Galaxy Thanos and Silver Surfer would technically fit the idea, 'the guy' that said that was his team was told no. My idea of a 'pokey stabby' team was also vetoed.
I sat down and came up with some pretty fun teams. Actually, I came up with three that would work:
My Avengers team:
CW Hawkeye 98 pts
CW Tigra 57 pts
M10 Thor @ 100 pts
M10 Captain America 63pts
CA Falcon 79 pts.
=397 pts.
Hellfire Club:
WXM White King 107 pts
WXM Black King 165 pts
WXM Magneto 65 pts
M10 White Queen 62 pts
=399 pts
X Factor
WXM Havok 81 pts
WXM Polaris 94 pts
WXM Strong Guy 114 pts
GSX Sabretooth 93 pts
= 382 pts.
I chose the X Factor team, since I loved Strong Guy in the series. I mean, his name is STRONG GUY!!!Plus, I had recently traded for Sabretooth and I've always liked him, and especially liked him in X Factor.
For a not so new character, he has a nice dial and powers:
Attack - Mortal Wound: When a character takes 3 or more damage from Sabretooth's attack, that character can't heal for the rest of the game even if this power is countered or lost.
Defense - Animalistic: Sabretooth can use Combat Reflexes and Super Senses.
A natural 12 attack? Sounds good to me.
Add that to Strong Guys dial and special power:
(Special) Temporary Kinetic Absorbtion: When Strong Guy takes damage from an attack, he can use Battle Fury, the Giant Reach ability, and increases his combat values by the amount of damage taken until the end of your next turn.
Add those two together and whoever bases them is in trouble.
I paired them with Havok and Polaris:
Havok
(Special) Summers Brothers: Havok ignores all damage dealt by characters named Cyclops, unless it's dealt by a close combat attack. This ability can't be ignored.
(Special) Destined Duo: When Havok is adjacent to a character named Polaris, they both modify their attack values by +1 if not already modified by this effect.
(Damage) Plasma Discharge: When Havok makes a ranged combat attack targeting an opposing character and has a direct line of fire, the area of effect for the attack includes all other characters occupying squares adjacent to the squares the line of fire passes through. The target is dealt damage normally, and each other hit character is dealt 1 penetrating damage.
Polaris
(Special) Destined Duo: When Polaris is adjacent to a character named Havok, they both modify their defense values by +1 if not already modified by this effect.
(Damage) Magnetic Crush: When Polaris uses Telekinesis and places an opposing character, after actions resolve, she deals damage to that character equal to her damage value minus 1.
Sit them next to each other and they have 11 AV and good range.
This team went 2-0 and got me a Cosmic Hulk! 'The Guy' is also cool enough to offer prizes for our weekly game. This team took on a Superman team, of Superman Robots and a Cyborg Superman.
In the next game, X Factor took on a Red Lantern team (Atrocitus, Aquamans wife (?!?) and another Red Lantern. The Red Lanterns went down quick.
I'll have to play this team again in our laid back games. But, that Avengers team looks cool, too.
