Weekly booster pull part one.

I was at work last Thursday and decided to stop by the shop on that side of town and pick up a booster. They don't have designated Heroclix time but they are going to start soon so that will be cool. So I went in, hoping they had some Wolverine and the X men left, but they were out.

They had some Teen Titans and 2 boosters of Amazing Spider Man. I started my addic....collection with the Spiderman set so I checked out the two boosters and picked the one that felt right. I know I'm not the only one that does that, right? Right?

Anyway, I took the booster to the counter, then for some reason, changed my mind and went back and got the other booster. I paid for the booster and being the addict I am, opened the booster right there:

YES!! Iron Spider chase!!! And I also got Daimon Hellstrom so am I glad I switched the booster!!!

So, Monday at work, I got to thinking about the last booster of Spiderman, the one I had originally picked but then switched at the last moment. It didn't take much to come up with a reason to swing by and pick it up, I had a crappy day at work, I was going out of town this weekend and would be unable to play Heroclix and pick up my weekly booster, I had a good day at work so I deserved a treat....like I said, it wasn't hard to come up with a reason.

I kept telling myself I was an idiot for buying the last booster when I had opened a booster with a Chase. I knew I'd get nothing but dupes, probably with a Dr. Strange ( I have five of him!!! FIVE!!!) but I went anyway.

I halfheartedly checked the Teen Titans boosters (they were HEAVY! All heavier than the Spiderman booster) but grabbed the Spiderman booster anyway, grimly ready to see this idiocy through to the end. Paying for the booster, I told the store owner I was going to get nothing good, but fr some reason, I thought that booster had a Ghost Rider. I opened it and there was no Ghost Rider. But, the first figure was Spiderman 1b, which I did not have, the second was Dagger which I do have but I was happy I had at least one new figure. The cards blocked the middle figures but the last one was Satanna Hellstrom, which I did not have. Cool, both Hellstrom in two consecutive boosters. Looking over the cards, I saw two identical figures. What the heck?  Wait a second....

HOLY MOLY, Brother Voodoo!!! COOL! I can not believe my luck, and can not believe I talked myself into going back in there and buying the booster after getting a chase. Well,I guess I can believe I talked myself into buying the booster :)

Ok, forget the team I posted

As Dr. Voodoo can't be carried since he is a flyer. Galactus was not played Saturday at my local shop but 'the guy' had a formidable team, full of perplex, probability control and two attackers.

The next game was a blast. We had decided to set up the next weeks games in advance, nothing too crazy but to give us time to put a team together that might be a little more cohesive than sitting down and trying to throw a team together in 5 minutes.

We had decided on the 600 point game, anything goes and a 400 point game, semi sort of theme comic book sort of accurate. As you can see, we aren't too restrictive. The idea was to have a fun game, and have a somewhat accurate comic team or a comic based team.

So, a Guardians of the Galaxy Thanos and Silver Surfer would technically fit the idea, 'the guy' that said that was his team was told no. My idea of a 'pokey stabby' team was also vetoed.

I sat down and came up with some pretty fun teams. Actually, I came up with three that would work:

My Avengers team:

CW Hawkeye 98 pts
CW Tigra 57 pts
M10 Thor @ 100 pts
M10 Captain America 63pts
CA Falcon 79 pts.

=397 pts.

Hellfire Club:

WXM White King 107 pts
WXM Black King 165 pts
WXM Magneto 65 pts
M10 White Queen 62 pts

=399 pts

X Factor

WXM Havok 81 pts
WXM Polaris 94 pts
WXM Strong Guy 114 pts
GSX Sabretooth 93 pts

= 382 pts.

I chose the X Factor team, since I loved Strong Guy in the series. I mean, his name is STRONG GUY!!!Plus, I had recently traded for Sabretooth and I've always liked him, and especially liked him in X Factor.

For a not so new character, he has a nice dial and powers:

Attack - Mortal Wound: When a character takes 3 or more damage from Sabretooth's attack, that character can't heal for the rest of the game even if this power is countered or lost.
Defense - Animalistic: Sabretooth can use Combat Reflexes and Super Senses.

A natural 12 attack? Sounds good to me.

Add that to Strong Guys dial and special power:

(Special) Temporary Kinetic Absorbtion: When Strong Guy takes damage from an attack, he can use Battle Fury, the Giant Reach ability, and increases his combat values by the amount of damage taken until the end of your next turn.

Add those two together and whoever bases them is in trouble.

I paired them with Havok and Polaris:

(Special) Summers Brothers: Havok ignores all damage dealt by characters named Cyclops, unless it's dealt by a close combat attack. This ability can't be ignored.

(Special) Destined Duo: When Havok is adjacent to a character named Polaris, they both modify their attack values by +1 if not already modified by this effect.

(Damage) Plasma Discharge: When Havok makes a ranged combat attack targeting an opposing character and has a direct line of fire, the area of effect for the attack includes all other characters occupying squares adjacent to the squares the line of fire passes through. The target is dealt damage normally, and each other hit character is dealt 1 penetrating damage.

(Damage) Magnetic Crush: When Polaris uses Telekinesis and places an opposing character, after actions resolve, she deals damage to that character equal to her damage value minus 1.

Sit them next to each other and they have 11 AV and good range.

This team went 2-0 and got me a Cosmic Hulk! 'The Guy' is also cool enough to offer prizes for our weekly game. This team took on a Superman team, of Superman Robots and a Cyborg Superman.

In the next game, X Factor took on a Red Lantern team (Atrocitus, Aquamans wife (?!?) and another Red Lantern. The Red Lanterns went down quick.

I'll have to play this team again in our laid back games. But, that Avengers team looks cool, too.

I know this guy...

at our local shop. He's great and fun to play against and very helpful in learning the rules. He's also very good with giving lop sided trades.

But...... he likes to play super powerful mega figures. There's nothing wrong with that, really, but wow does it get annoying to go against really powerful figures. The good side of that is you start to learn what to watch out for and  start to think of ways of countering what you are sure to face Saturday.

That all being said, I hate ASM Nightmare. A lot. And the FI Odin, he sucks, too.And I have a feeling I'm about to really, really hate 600 point Galactus.

But, the good news is I was searching through the Units Section on HC Realms and was wandering through the ASM set. This is the first set I started buying, and have a decent amount of them, however, most of them haven't been used.

One of them is Dr. Voodoo. The prime version, Brother Voodoo is supposedly a lot better and is on a lot of meta teams. But, I don't have him. I had checked Dr. Voodoo out many times, while looking for figures to build a team with or simply searching through the units section.

But, I guess I never really noticed the awesomeness of his trait:

NULL OF LEGBA'S STAFF: Dr. Voodoo can use Penetrating/Psychic Blast. When he uses it and hits a character of 100 points or more, all damage dealt to that character this turn is penetrating damage.

Yeah, ok, great, he does penetrating damage. Yay......wait, what's the rest say? All damage dealt to that character for the rest of the turn is penetrating? Wow,ok, with that in mind, here is my team:

Shatterstar x 2 146 points
Korvus x 2 128 points
Magik 102
Dr. Voodoo 134 points

That's only 510 points so I' ll have to find another figure but the way I would spend my turn is Magik ports Dr.. Voodoo (using her free action) over to Galactus and Dr. Voodoo hits for 3. Magik hits for three. Shatterstars port Korvus over and both of them hit for 5, both penetrating, due to Dr. Voodoo's power.

16 points of damage, one turn? Maybe Dr. Voodoo would perplex up his damage for 17 points of damage. Almost enough, assuming everyone hits, to KO 600 point Galactus in one round.

I can not wait to run this team next weekend.

Two fun games yesterday.

We play for fun at our local shop, but some people play for fun and to demolish other teams. So I decided to make a team that would be able to deal a lot of damage very quickly. Here is what I came up with:

WXM 01 Wolverine: hadn't played him yet.
WXM 17 Jean Grey: I've played here but thought some TK would be good to have.
WXM 10 Shatterstar: I love BCF. BCF and Flurry is even better. Plus, I have to admit, I like his special power:

X PORTAL: Once per game, give Shatterstar a power action. Place Shatterstar and an adjacent friendly character of a lower point value in any adjacent squares on the map.
And this ties directly in with a figure I had traded for:

WXM 37a Magneto! I remember reading the previews and finding this power:

CAPTURE CAPE CITADEL MISSILE BASE: If Magneto occupies an opponent's starting area, give him a power action and choose a square on the map. For each character occupying that square or an adjacent square, roll a d6 that can't be rerolled. On a result of 4-6, deal that character 3 damage.

I happily traded my SR Exodus for 37a Magneto, Black King, White King and Gambit. I knew I was going to play Magneto and Gambit at the next Saturday games.

And the last member of my team:

WXM 31 Gambit: I was glad to get this in a trade, my first Gambit. Reading his special powers, he has a potentially devastating attack.

BIO-KINETIC CHARGING: Gambit can use Super Strength, but he can't pick up or hold heavy objects. When he throws an object, modify his attack value by +2 and increase the damage dealt by 2.

So, hitting someone for 5 damage would be good. He can also use Energy Explosion which would do three damage to everyone hit....

So, the plan was to TK Gambit out so he could pick up an object and blast someone. And teleport Shatterstar over to the opponents starting area and rain down some missiles...hopefully on the same group of opponents.

We typically play free for alls with three or four people. Lately we have had more than that show up,so it has allowed for several 1 on 1's but today we had four. We decided to have two1 on 1 games and I sat down to play with J.

I had a realization that in a one on one, I had a chance to do quite a bit of damage with Gambit and Magneto in one turn but didn't really see anything wrong with the team.

J. fielded :

FI Titania, who has a really cool power:

PROVE I'M THE STRONGEST WOMAN (OR MAN) THERE IS: Titania can use Super Strength. Titania modifies her attack value by +2 when attacking a character that can use Super Strength.

This came into play when Gambit was TK'ed out onto the field, had a light object and shot Titania. It hit but did not do a lot of damage but it did move her off her move and attack clicks. J realized the special power was in  play and had a heavy object in hand and moved into place next to Gambit with ill intent in mind :)

Thankfully, Jean Grey was in range and yanked him back to safety.

Magneto was able to pull off the missile bombing power but it only hit once, and that was reduced to one. Still, it was awesome and I will use it again, hopefully in a large four player game. All the attack did in this game was make Pepper Potts, Thundra and She Hulk turn around and head my way but surprisingly, with Magnetos free force blast and three or four BCF rolls of six (I never get good rolls!) I was able to not only keep Magneto alive but win  the game.

Not only was it a fun game but it was a lot of fun during the game as J and I had a great time making jokes and commenting on the game.

Went to a Fear Itself Tournament (my second).

I wasn't sure I was going to go, as I had come down with a bad cold and hadn't heard from any of the local guys that could make the trip. Friday night, I checked my phone and got a text that a local could go so the next morning, I woke up and felt ok and decided to go.

We made it up to the shop in Valdosta in plenty of time and the tournament actually started an hour late, but that was ok. I got my two boosters and noticed one of them was noticeably heavier than the other.I wanted another SR Colossus!

I opened the boosters and got Angrir and Kuurth!! I also got two Asgardian Trolls, both of the Iron Fist figures (with one extra Might Iron Fist), Heimdall and copies of Valkyrie and Black Widow. I ended up trading the Mighty Iron Fist for Greithoth and traded Angrir for Null. I was happy with Angrir but the guy who offered to trade for it was the same guy that GAVE me a FI Hawkeye the first time I showed up for a tournament, so I gladly traded him.

Kuurth and Nul are huge! Greithoth is big too, and looks really cool.

All of the figures I ended up with.

How did I do? Not so good, but that's ok. I went 1-3 and could have been 2-2, the first game was close. The third game I played I got destroyed by a range FI team and the funny thing is, the next game he played ran almost exactly like the game I played him. Same spots for both teams, same outcome. FI Serpent, Dr. Strange and Ms. Marvel destroys.

There was also a 300 point constructed tournament afterwards and I ran Shatterstar, Korvus, Silver Samurai and Oracle. They don't do so well against ASM Nightmare. I hate ASM Nightmare. I really do. Mainly because I don't own him, but still, I hate ASM Nightmare :)

Oh, the MVP of my team in the FI tournament? Without adoubt, the 25 point Asgardian Troll.

I was going to cut and paste the Asgardian Troll dial from the HCR Primer reviews but that dial is wrong. The ones they had posted were posted on April 1st :). The trols first click has Super strength and 3 damage, so is you do it right, he can hit for 5 damage. In all of my games, I hit at least once, if not twice before the troll got knocked out. Well worth the cost.
