But...... he likes to play super powerful mega figures. There's nothing wrong with that, really, but wow does it get annoying to go against really powerful figures. The good side of that is you start to learn what to watch out for and start to think of ways of countering what you are sure to face Saturday.
That all being said, I hate ASM Nightmare. A lot. And the FI Odin, he sucks, too.And I have a feeling I'm about to really, really hate 600 point Galactus.
But, the good news is I was searching through the Units Section on HC Realms and was wandering through the ASM set. This is the first set I started buying, and have a decent amount of them, however, most of them haven't been used.
One of them is Dr. Voodoo. The prime version, Brother Voodoo is supposedly a lot better and is on a lot of meta teams. But, I don't have him. I had checked Dr. Voodoo out many times, while looking for figures to build a team with or simply searching through the units section.
But, I guess I never really noticed the awesomeness of his trait:
NULL OF LEGBA'S STAFF: Dr. Voodoo can use Penetrating/Psychic Blast. When he uses it and hits a character of 100 points or more, all damage dealt to that character this turn is penetrating damage. |
Yeah, ok, great, he does penetrating damage. Yay......wait, what's the rest say? All damage dealt to that character for the rest of the turn is penetrating? Wow,ok, with that in mind, here is my team:
Shatterstar x 2 146 points
Korvus x 2 128 points
Magik 102
Dr. Voodoo 134 points
That's only 510 points so I' ll have to find another figure but the way I would spend my turn is Magik ports Dr.. Voodoo (using her free action) over to Galactus and Dr. Voodoo hits for 3. Magik hits for three. Shatterstars port Korvus over and both of them hit for 5, both penetrating, due to Dr. Voodoo's power.
16 points of damage, one turn? Maybe Dr. Voodoo would perplex up his damage for 17 points of damage. Almost enough, assuming everyone hits, to KO 600 point Galactus in one round.
I can not wait to run this team next weekend.
Umm, yea you have not gone up against a Galactus and it shows. 16pts of damage? How is Magik going to carry Dr. Voodo over to Glactus and attack with either character? Its only a free action to double her speed value. You still have to give her an action for moving. Regardless if it was a free action or not, you can not give characters an action after taxi. Then you will have to give Br. Vodoo a click for doubling her speed value. So there go your first two attacks are already Nul and void.
ReplyDeletePlus remember Galactus gets a Herald, so there will be a 150pt piece moving around harassing you, all at the same time you are dealing with galactus.
The Korvus and Shatterstar thing though is ok, you are still going to have to roll 9's to hit.
Ok here is what I would do.(this is a Golden age team)
Take out Br.Voodo and sub for Dirk Anger.
Use Magik to telaport Dirk across the map as far as she can. You should be within 4 of Galactus at this point. He has a power that characters can not use TA. remember countering and ignoring TA are two different things so this is works fine against big G, and should also no let him use Mystics TA because of his trait.(bonus)
Take out one Korvus and sub for a character with outwit and a point cost one of our shatterstar's can carry.(A nice damage would be great to be not totally necessary)
At this point you can outwit his impervious as long as big g is still within 4 of dirk.
Use your other shatterstar to bring in Korvus and attack with the locked BCF damage of 5. (Preplex up his attack with Dirk to :)
Remember to use Magic to prob if he misses.
Now assuming you hit he should be 5 clix down, that is enough in the first turn to really give you an edge on Big G.
If this is a 600pt team you should still have some pts to play with. Maybe invest in some more Perplex or Prob with it.
If its Modern age, try a similar strat with rare Adam Warlock. Although he will not be able to be carried by Magic due to being a flyer and not with New Mutants key word and is more expensive than shatterstar. So if you went this route you may have to re-organize you whole team.
My bad at 600pts don't have to worry about Mystics TA, I guess that is a plus. Just remember what ever you play its going to be an uphill battle. He sucks

That team won't work as planned anyway, since Dr. Voodoo is a flier...Thanks for the knowledge on the free action, I totally misread that.Bu, how is Magik's phasing/teleport different than Shatterstars? Ok, checking, it says place with Shatterstar and carry with Magik, but would she be able to 'port Dr. Voodoo and then he could act? Or because it says carry, he would not?
