As promised in my last post, I had two battles yesterday that were the most fun I have had so far in playing. After the 800 point game ended abruptly due to two of the players having to leave, the other newer player, let's call him Tom, and I decided to play a game. He had played Heroclix awhile ago but had moved and had stopped playing, so he is getting back into it.
We talked for a bit as we built our teams. He was lucky enough to pull a Superboy Prime from a booster at our local shop. I can't imagine opening a booster and getting that Clix. Must have been a cool feeling.
As we were talking, I decided to build a team using DC Clix,as I have yet to use any of them. Back when I was collecting comics, I was solely a Marvel guy. I liked the Legion of Superheros and Justice League back when I was a kid but the Avengers and Xmen were my big comic book interests. So, naturally, that's what I like in finding Heroclix.
We decided on a 300 point game and I fielded BM 015 Nightrunner, BM 009 Red Robin, TT 016 Grymm and ASM 036 Kaine. Ok, one Marvel character, but I have never heard of him, but I wanted to see how cool it was to switch him to ASM 018 Scarlet Spider.
Tom fielded TT 016 Grymm, Deathstroke, Rose Wilson and Jinx.
Tom used the really nice fold out cardboard map . It was small and worked great.
This battle was over pretty quickly. Tom had horrible rolls and my team pretty easily wiped him out. The surprise Clix was Grymm, he did very well with his poison damage and decent damage. Nightrunner might has well have been sitting in my storage case, for all the good he did. Kaine was great, never even took a click of damage.
The next battle, I decided for my 300 points to use the Sinister Six and used The Lizard, Rhino and Electro. Tom used Cloak and Dagger, Deathstroke and one other Clix that in my old age has been forgotten.
I was hoping this would be a cake walk and at first, it was. Rhino used his special power 'Head down and Horn Up' and did 6 and 5 damage on two charges. Electro hit with Arc Lightning and bounced an attack once but then missed the next roll, or he would have single handed knocked out two characters in one attack.
Electro got knocked out but I was still up, Rhino and Lizard against Deathstroke so I was still pretty confident. However, I had misread the Sinister Syndicate Team Ability, thinking I could use any defense value of an adjacent Clix, but it is actually the Attack Value. But thinking back, I don't think Lizard would have hit, even if he had been using Rhino's AV. Without some help, the Lizard is not going to hit many people.after his second click, where his AV goes to 9 and even dips all the way down to 7. I was hoping to be able to use his special, which is a free attack when he uses his tail to swipe at enemies.
So, Deathstroke was able to make up for his poor showing in the first game when he was able to take both the Rhino and the Lizard down.
Both of those games were an absolute blast and exactly the type of games I need, as a new player. We took the time to read the cards, consult the rules to determine what color did what and played a small enough team to actually have a good idea of what was going on and what was being planned.
And I definitely will use that Sinister Syndicate team again, Rhino and Electro were awesome.
*Rhino artwork borrowed from Wikipedia who borrowed it from somewhere else* But that's a pretty good representation of his 'Head Down, Horn Up' power.
